My name is Dann Thomas. I started my first IT company back in 1997 and I started the UK chapter of System Administrator Appreciation Day in 2003. I was inspired by Ted Kekatos who in 2000 was himself inspired to create the special day by a Hewlett-Packard magazine advertisement in which a system administrator is presented with flowers and fruit-baskets by grateful co-workers as thanks for installing new printers.
System Administrator Appreciation Day is a 24-hour event occurring on the Last Friday of July. Always has been on the Last Friday of July. It has never been on any other day. It has never been on a Saturday. Please stop asking to change the date. Sysadmin Day is celebrated on whatever date the last Friday of July falls on in your own country, as long as it is the Last Friday of July.
